Basic Crochet Beanie

I did a Crochet Beanie Tutorial for my YouTube channel and decided to write out the pattern for those that prefer the written version to the video.  If you want to see the video tutorial you can watch it at the end of this post. There are many, many ways to crochet this beanie so i'm just going to show you how I make mine. =)  I'm not using anyone else's pattern. I just kind of go with the flow when I make my beanies.

Before I start the pattern I want to explain how you can adjust it to fit any size head from a newborn to grown man.

First, check out this AWESOME Chart to determine the estimated hat circumference you will need to make for the beanie to fit properly.  After you have that number you need to divide it by Pi (3.14) to determine how many increase rounds you will need.  I chose to make an adult male beanie so according to the chart an adult male's head circumference is about 23-24".  I used 24" divided by 3.14 and got 7.6.  I stopped my increase rounds at 7" because a dc stitch is stretchy.  It's better for the beanie to be a little snug than too big. Once I got to my desired circumference I stopped increasing as you will see in the pattern. =)

Basic Crochet Beanie

Round 1:

Start with magic circle OR ch 4, sl st to 1st ch, 6 dc in ch space, sl st to 1st dc

Round 2:

ch 3 (counts as 1st dc) place st marker in top of ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in each st around (do NOT sl st to 1st dc)

**Move stitch marker to last dc of this round and do so at end of each round

Round 3:

1 dc in next st (top of ch3), 2dc in next st (this is the increase), continue pattern around

Round 4:

1 dc in each of next 2 st, 2 dc in next st. Cont. increase in every 3rd st around

Round 5:

1 dc in each of next 3 st, 2dc in next st. Cont increase in every 4th st around

Round 6:

1 dc in each of next 4 st, 2 dc in next st. Cont. increase in every 5th st around.

Round 7:

1 dc in each of next 5 st, 2dc in next st. Cont. increase in every 6th st around.

Round 8:

1 dc in each of next 6 st, 2dc in next st. Cont. increase in every 7th st around.

Round 9 - ?

1 dc in each st around

**Repeat this round until the hat is at your desired length.

(Optional 2 additional rounds)

1st Additional Round:

hdc in next st, sc in each st around

2nd Additional Round:

sc in each st around, sl st in next st, ch1

Cut yarn and pull through last ch to create knot

Sew in tails.

Crochet Flower Pot Cover

I have 2 of these flower pots from each of my two youngest's births.  I've had them put away for a long time because they just don't go with the rest of my house.  

I was crocheting what was to be a drawstring bag, but ended up being my new flower pot cover.

My Poinsettias fit perfectly in them. =)

Materials

Flower pot: circumference: 14.75 inches, height: 4.25 inches

Hook: size J/10 6.00MM

Yarn: worsted weight, 1 ball of each color

Tapestry needle

Scissors

Cover Pattern

Magic loop (or ch 4, join)

Round 1: 8 hdc, sl st in 1st hdc

Round 2: ch 1, 2 hdc in each st around, sl st in 1st hdc (16 hdc)

Round 3: ch 1, *hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st.  Repeat from * 6x. hdc in next 2 st, sl st in 1st hdc (24 hdc)

Round 4: (change color) ch 1, * hdc in next 2 st, 2 hdc in next st.  Repeat from * 7x.  sl st in 1st hdc (30 hdc)

Round 5: *ch 3, skip next st, sc in next st. Repeat from * 14x, sl st in 1st sc (15 ch 3 spaces)

Round 6: *sc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, sc in ch 3 space. Repeat from * around. sl st in 1st sc & in each st to dc

Round 7: (change color) ch 4 (counts as 1st dc, ch 1), *dc in next dc, ch 1. Repeat from * 12x. sl st in 1 dc (14 ch 1 spaces)

Round 8: * sc,ch 1, dc, ch 1, sc in next ch 1 space. Repeat from * 14x. sl st in 1st sc & each st to dc

Round 9: (change color) sc in same dc, ch 3. *sc in next dc, ch 3. Repeat from *13x. sl st in 1st sc, ch 1 (15 ch 3 spaces)

Round 10: 3 hdc in each ch 3 space around. sl st in 1st hdc (45 hdc)

Round 11: ch 1, hdc in each st around. sl st in 1st hdc. (45 hdc)

Round 12: ch 1, *hdc in next 4 st, hdc dec. Repeat from *6x. hdc in next 4 st. sl st in 1st hdc.

Round 13: ch 1, *hdc in next 3 st, hdc dec. Repeat from *6x. hdc in next 3 st, sl st in 1st hdc.

Round 14: ch 5 (counts as 1st tr, ch 1) *skip next st, tr in next st, ch 1. Repeat from *13x. sl st in 1st tr. (16 tr, ch 1 spaces)

Round 15: *sc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, sc in next ch 1 space. Repeat from * around. sl st in 1st sc.

Round 16: (change color) sc in same sc with new color. ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 1, sc in next sc. *sc in next sc, ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 1, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. sl st in 1st sc.

Fasten off, weave in ends.

Drawstring

ch 78

Fasten off & tighten knot.

Cut ends about 1/2 inch from knots

Weave in chain through tr spaces (round 14)

Place flower pot in cover & tie a bow with the drawstring.

It can be used to store other items as well though. Either way you choose to use the flower pot it'll look cute with it's new crochet cover. =)

Crochet Remote Caddy

I'm a practical person and this remote mess was not working for me.  I had to find a way to get everything organized so I started looking online for a pattern to organize my remotes.  All of the patterns I found were too small or just didn't work for me.  I decided to create my own pattern so I grabbed my yarn, hook, paper and a pen and got started.

After a few days of crocheting and unraveling my work, writing and rewriting every stitch I made, this is what I came up with...

Crochet Remote Caddy

RedHeart Yarn, worsted weight

Hook size H/8-5.00MM

Tapestry Needle

(Make 2)

Ch. 52

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook & ever ch to end (51 sc)

(now we begin to work in rounds)

Row 2: ch 3, turn (counts as 1st dc), dc in front loop of next 50 sc, dc in back loop of each dc to 2nd to last dc, dc in both loops of last dc, sl st to top of 1st dc to complete round. (102 dc)

Rows 3-12: ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), dc in each dc around, sl st in 1st dc (102 dc/round)

Row 13: sl st in nxt dc, ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), dc in next 50 dc (51 dc)

Rows 14-21 ch 3, turn, dc in next 50 dc (51 dc)

Fasten off 

*On first half only, leave 2 feet tail at fasten off, on second half leave about 2 inch tail

Connecting 2 Halves

Place both halves with pockets facing each other.

Line up both corner dc and begin to sew (not weave) together the halves making sure the stitches are lining up equally.

Knot last stictch (insert needle into st, pull up loop, put needle through loop & pull knot tight

Leave tail loose to crochet border over at end.

Pocket Dividers

(Make as many as you need for both ends)

*Ex: If you want 4 pockets, you will need 3 dividers

Begin new chain.

Ch 21

Fasten off with 2 inch tail

Weave ch starting at front bottom of dc (through both sides) & ending at top dc from back to front, just under border of pocket. 

Make sure both ends of ch align with top and bottom pocket borders.

Place your items in the pockets to ensure they fit.

Borders

sl st in right side of main pocket

sc in each st across top of pocket

*when coming to a ch divider sc through ch AND border to secure divider*

At corner of pocket begin 2 sc through both, front & back, dc on side border, 2 sc in each pair of dc across.

At next corner sc, ch1, sc in corner sc (at base of sc, not top), sc in base of each sc across, sc, ch1, sc in corner sc

2 sc in both, front & back, dc along side border

When you reach your initial starting point sl st in top of border dc (same place you did the 1st sl st to attach yarn) , fasten off leaving about 2 inch tail

Repeat border pattern to complete 2nd half

Weave in any loose ends.

Reinforce Pocket Dividers by sewing a few knots over each top divider/border junction.
Weave in loose ends in back of project.
